Didn't there used to be a stickied thread somewhere on these forums specifically for this purpose?

Or am I thinking of some other forum?

Your information isn't stored on your machine, it's stored server-side. Any hacks would have to penetrate ANets security levels just to get to your information, then have to break the code to do the hacking. Diablo, for example, stored everything on your own computer which made it relatively easy to at least get to.

Any alleged hacks into GW are simply lies with insidious intent. Be warned, or be hacked.

Consequences... this could lead to identity theft. If someone gets enough of your information to convince others that they're you... imagine the years you'll be spending trying to clean off your credit report and fight off debt collectors for things you never bought. Think of the home you'll never be able to buy. Or the car. Student loans, gone.

This goes way beyond the game. People are trying to screw with your entire life.

don't over trust your anti virus software. some virus and spyware are so nasty that they'll still do massive damage to your computer even with anti virus running.

it's like wearing a bullet proof armor, it doesn't make you/your computer invincible. if you get shot, it'll still hurt a lot.

and in addition to lossing the GW account, you are also very likely to loss access to your email accounts, bank accounts, credit card accounts and any porn download sites you paid to get access to... ;p

I am well aware of that.

I am however talking about a particular thread I remember which was stickied for the specific purpose of posting scams, exploits, and alleged hacks.

I for one encourage hackers to grab these programs. Anybody who feels they need to hack to play a game deserve to have their accounts stolen and all their characters destroyed. Sorry if I sound bitter but I used to play counterstrike and the sudden onslaught of hackers that showed up at one point ruined the game for me. But after it was revealed that a lot of these hackers had their cd keys stolen because a hacker group called [mygot] installed a registry sniffer into the hacking programs, I just had to laugh. Now that I think about it, I'm glad I stopped playing CS, the game sucks and I dunno why I ever got addicted to it

I played CS hardcore, 4 - 5 hours every night. Loved that game, also so disappointed of the hacks.

good memories while it lasted. I remember upgrading my 56k modem from a half-ass win modem to a true hardware modem improved my ping from 250+ms to sub 200 ms (no boardband available in my area yet at that time). I was so happy, haa.

Now I am playing CS:S (half life 2) on and off. not as much hacking. enjoying it for the most part except the AWP problem is worse then CS imo

I was even wary of installing GWFreaks... I can't even begin to imagine the horrors installing a "hack."

The beauty of GW is it's near hack-proff design. Your computer gets most of what it uses from them, not from your computer. So unless you go to ANets HQ and start hacking there, 100% of all dupes, hacks, etc are 100% fake.

I did some light hacking in the days of Diablo2 (maphack, minor dupes) but this was years ago. Back then virius' were a problem, but NOTHING like now. Today, downloading is completely different. Its hardly related today as it was then.

Getting "hacks" for games online is like parking in a car durning a gang shootout. You WILL get hit, and no matter how fast you are at deleting it, it WILL hurt.
